Executive Committee Candidates
Deacon Ross Porter
Raised in the Baptist Church, Ross received a call at a Church summer camp to ordained ministry at fifteen. And for most of his twenties, he was in seminary earning a Master of Divinity and a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology. During his seminary journey, he married his best friend Jenni Somdal in 1990, and they had the first of their four children, John Michael. This gift of Providence came with a vocation to special needs people for Ross, and he founded Stillpoint Family Resources, a special needs after-school program and counseling ministry,in 1998.
But the Still Small Voice continued speaking to Ross’ heart, and when he entered the Anglican Church of North America in 2020, he was finally ready to embrace a call to the priesthood. With his ordination to the priesthood set for December 9, and a mission to plant West Hills Anglican with special needs families at the heart, Ross rejoices in God’s faithfulness and goodness.
Regina Moore-Ude
I long as I can remember, I have wanted to be an educator. Looking back, I was not sure of the direction God had planned for me. But His favor, grace and mercy never faltered. I have been an educator for the past 20 years. As an Adjunct Professor of Health Science at California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB), in the School of Natural Science, I teach courses in public health and health services administration as well as coordinating the undergraduate internship program. I have taught at CSUSB since 2011. As the Children Ministry director and teacher at All Saints Anglican Church, LA, I have been blessed with the opportunity to share the word of God with preschoolers to young adults. Whether at the university or at the church, I begin my educational moment with a word with the Father. I pray that He gives me the wisdom to say the right words to open minds, engage learners and draw other to Him through me.
My mission is to empower learners on their educational journey; to explore their capabilities and the gifts the Master has entrusted to them to be the very best that they can be.
My favorite bible verse is Jeremiah 29:11: For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not disaster, to give you a future and a hope”. It is that hope that allows me to believe that the favor of the Lord is upon me in all that I endeavor to do.
Bill Leonard
I have been involved in church activities since my youth. After High School, I attended Phoenix College, then graduated from Arizona State University, where I met my wife Sandee. We have been married for 62 years. We have two grown sons Scott And Jeff. I spent 28 years as General Manager of Food Service at Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego. I retired in 2000 and moved to Las Vegas, Nevada.
I have served on various church vestries. Rector of both Cursillo and Kairos, I am a founding member of Desert Oasis Anglican Fellowship which combined with St. Martin’s Anglican Church. Currently I am on the Deanery Clergy Formation Team.
After Cursillo, I feel that when the Holy Spirit calls, I must respond. (Isaiah—Who will we send, Who will go for Us.) My answer has been, "Here I am Lord, Send Me! I will answer the call."
Dave Chapman
2-Year Executive Committee Term
I have been blessed by lifelong Anglican church attendance, beginning at St. Edmond’s Episcopal Church in San Marino, CA, and as an adult at St. James Anglican Church in Newport Beach and Costa Mesa. Throughout my life I have felt God’s presence guiding, directing, encouraging, and uplifting me. Through the disciplines of attending Sunday Eucharist on a regular basis and practicing the Daily Office, I continue to hear God's voice ever more clearly as I grow closer to him with each passing year.
God’s call to serve the church has been through lay ministry. I have been elected to the St. James Vestry four times (including the current term). In addition, I currently serve as Senior Warden and a member of the finance committee. I also led a weekly small group for seven years and served as Secretary and Treasurer for Anglican House Media Ministry.
I have now received the call to join the Executive Committee for the diocese. I am humbled by this call as this is an important time of change and growth in our diocese as we embark on a search for a new bishop and reach out to our local communities with the transforming love of Jesus Christ. I will approach my participation on the Executive Committee through prayer and guidance from the Holy Spirit.
My wife, Marty, and I have been blessed with three children and six grandchildren, all of whom live in the Newport Beach/Costa Mesa area. I am retired from my career of working for medical product and industrial product manufacturing companies, including Johnson and Johnson and Emerson Electric Company.
The Rev. Canon David Montzingo, D.Min.
Although I had the privilege of growing up in a Christian home, I did not become a real Jesus follower until college at Harvard University during the 1960s, where I sensed a call to ordained ministry. After seminary at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary and an internship at Park Street Church on the Boston Common, I pastored two Boston-area churches before moving to San Diego in 1987.
In San Diego I ministered in three Episcopal churches before planting Holy Spirit Anglican Church with a wonderful team of lay leaders in 2010. From 2005-2018 I taught Anglican Studies at Bethel Seminary San Diego, and from 2017-2021 I served as Canon for Clergy Formation in our Diocese of Western Anglicans.
Presently, I am an assistant professor at the new Pacific Theological Seminary in San Diego. Ruth and I have been married forty years — we currently have four adult children and three grandchildren.
